OMC
2005 GUIDELINES ON PAPER FORMAT AND PRESENTATION
Authors are requested to
carefully read the attached guidelines to
be strictly followed when preparing their
paper.
Papers must be submitted to the OMC 2005
Programme Committee through OMC
2005 Secretariat – Viale Farini, 14
- 48100 Ravenna – conference@omc.it
no later than
15th December 2004
Papers received
after the above deadline cannot be guaranteed
inclusion in the Conference Proceedings.
Papers shall be written in
English, using a simple terminology,
avoiding slang and too technical a jargon.
Thoughts and ideas shall be organised to
lead the paper to a logical conclusion and
developed straightforward, avoiding unnecessary
words and phrases.
The paper included in technical
sessions must not exceed 12 (twelve) pages
including tables, figures, graphs, appendixes
etc.
The paper included in poster sessions must
not exceed 6 (six) pages including tables,
figures, graphs, appendixes etc.
Format
OMC 2005 Conference Proceedings will be
collected and edited on CD Rom.
Papers shall be sent on floppy disk, CD
rom or by e-mail as Word 2000 documents
(or latest release) converted into HTML
format.
Editing procedure:
Write your paper using the “Web Layout”
that can be selected from the “View
menu”. By doing so you will check
that text and images are located in their
proper place. Graphs and Pictures must be
in JPG or GIF format ONLY. Optimize image
quality for proper screen visualization.
Saving procedure:
Save the file as a HTML document from the
“Save as Menu”. After conversion
into HTML FORMAT, double check that text
and pictures are positioned correctly before
sending your work.
Please note that this “save procedure”
will create a text file and a folder with
images.
Transmittal
procedure:
Create a new folder named by the paper number
that shall include the above folder and
file. Add the new folder to WinZip and compress
it before sending.
A print-out copy must be sent as
well as the file.
Type your text using single space within
the text and double space between paragraphs
and headings. Margins shall be properly
even. Please DO NOT USE COLUMNS.
See enclosed typing specimen.
Font
Use Arial pitch 11, as
typing font for the text (the one used for
this author’s kit). Pitch 12 bold,
capital letters must be used for all headings
(ABSTRACT, CONCLUSIONS, etc…). Pitch
14 bold must be used for the PAPER
TITLE only.
Key
words
Please remember to specify a few key words
(4-5) for your paper.
Page
number
Please number all pages at the bottom centre
(as done in this document).
TITLE
Please type your paper title using capital
letters, followed by the list of authors
in the order they shall be published.
Please follow this pattern:
Initials for christian name. Surname, Company
affiliation.
Ex.: J.Cook, Crumpets Ltd.
ABSTRACT
An abstract containing a concise summary
shall precede the paper.
INTRODUCTION
The introduction shall outline the concepts
developed in the study and the methods applied
to expand them.
PAPER
CONTENT
The paper shall describe the theory and
the supporting data illustrating tests performed
as well as pointing out any new information
about the topic dealt with.
Subheads can be used to organise the text
into sections.
PRESENTATION
OF DATA AND RESULTS
Data and results shall be presented in the
clearest form whether it be text, graphs
or tables.
If using graphs or figures, make sure all
illustrations have adequate contrast,
number them consecutively and provide them
with essential captions underneath.
If using tables make sure they are placed
on one page only, unless it is necessary
to occupy more than a full page. Avoid tables
whenever graphs can better illustrate your
supporting data.
Please number tables consecutively and provide
them with essential captions.
If using symbols, list them alphabetically
in a formal nomenclature.
CONCLUSIONS
Conclusions shall be stated directly and
concisely and be closely related to the
text.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
If acknowledgements for special help from
individuals and/or organisations is included,
it shall be brief.
REFERENCES
All references shall be listed numerically
in the order they are cited. Please follow
the patterns below:
Reference to articles:
Author's surname, initials for christian
name, "Title of the article",
Title of the periodical, publisher, date
of publication, volume no., page no(s).
Reference to books:
Author's surname, initials for christian
name, "Title of the book", publisher
and city of publication, date of publication,
page no(s).
APPENDIX
If supporting material is extremely detailed
or based on mathematical derivation, use
appendix or appendices, designating them
Appendix A, Appendix B and so on.
FIGURES
Figures shall be organised in the simplest
form. Use only as many grid lines as necessary.
Avoid graphs on log-log or semilog grids.
!!ATTENTION!!
Avoid including in your technical
paper any material of commercial nature.
Replace, where possible, trade names with
generic descriptions.
DURATION
OF PRESENTATION
The presentation will last 20 minutes
MAXIMUM and will be followed by
maximum 5 minutes of questions-answers
time.
Please check duration of your paper
presentation in advance.
