OMC 2019 - Student Contest

Yesterday, the day dedicated to young people, witnessed the presence of hundreds of students

These are the winners of the Student Paper Contest

This year too the OMC made ample room for young people.

One of the main sessions was particularly reserved for an open discussion between the main international players in the Oil & Gas sector and several hundred "future professionals", namely young university students from about ten Italian universities (the Polytechnic Universities of Milan and Turin, La Sapienza University of Rome, the Universities of Pisa, Chieti, L'Aquila, Potenza, Ravenna, Trieste and Bologna), as well as many other individually enrolled students.

The highlight of the youth programme was the late afternoon prize-giving event for the Student Paper Contest, a competition sponsored by SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) for Master’s Degree and PhD students to submit papers on the theme of Oil&Gas.

Nicolò Lontani, from Ravenna, from the Polytechnic University of Milan, won the Master’s section with a paper on the theme "VIVACE (Vortex Induced Vibrations for Aquatic-Clean Energy): Converter as a solution for the upgrading and requalification of offshore platforms".

Riccardo Borghi (Saronno), also from the Polytechnic University of Milan, came second in the same section but won the "Best Paper Overall" prize for the best overall presentation, with a paper entitled, "Sensitivity analysis and decision trees for the identification of the cause of pressure oscillations in Oil&Gas production systems".

The section reserved for PhDs acclaimed Ali Islam, from Al Azar University in Cairo, for a paper on the theme, "A new approach to improve reservoir modeling via artificial neural network".

Second place in this section was awarded to Gianmaria Pio from the University of Bologna, for his paper on "Modelling liquefied natural gas pool fire".
